Abstract

This paper examined the relationship between the SWR bandwidth, bend angles and bent length of a resonant wire dipole antenna. A single test frequency at 299.792458 Hz was chosen and a wire diameter of 6.35 mm was set. The resonant length of the dipole was divided into 25 segments. The bent length at each end of the dipole started at one segment and incremented by one segment-allowing for 12 total test runs. For each bent length, a 5-degree increment (from 0 to 90 degrees) of the bend angle was set. Two transmission line impedance were chosen: 50 Ω and 75 Ω. The results showed that the average SWR bandwidth at different bend angles for a 50-Ω transmission line impedance tend to increase up to a bent length of 5 segments and the average SWR bandwidth at different bend angles for a 75-Ω transmission line impedance tend to decrease up to a bent length of 6 segments. © 2019 IEEE.
