Abstract

CO-laser based photoacoustic detection of nitric oxide has been theoretically and experimentally investigated. Using a model based on rate equations the influence of H 2O vapor on NO relaxation was determined. In addition, NO absorption coefficients were measured and they showed a good correspondence with calculated values from Hitran database. The high laser power in combination with a sensitive photoacoustic cell resulted in a detection limit of 1 ppbv (1:10 9).
