Rice (Oryza Sativa L.) is an essential food for most of the world's population, and it plays a critical role in the global food system and contributes to food security. One outcome of food production in the rice industry is the creation of significant quantities of waste generated. Essential solid waste products from rice production are straw, husk, bran, and broken rice. These wastes by the rice industry present significant challenges regarding their volume, quality, and potential uses. Advancements in geospatial technology, such as utilizing Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), present valuable and efficient solutions for estimating rice production. In this review article, several studies that use geospatial technologies to estimate rice production were reviewed. Then, by integrating geospatial data and models with rice production data, it is possible to gain insights into where and how waste is used at each stage of the rice production process. © 2024, IEICES/Kyushu University.
