Abstract

A battery-operated and LED-based lamp is attached to the bottom of the mass hanger of a vertical-spring mass oscillator. Allowing oscillations above a small solar panel, which is connected to a computer that runs a soundcard oscilloscope, an oscillating voltage output is generated. Recorded as a time series on the oscilloscope, the output voltage straightforwardly allowed for the measurement of the period of oscillations. Thus, the measurement of the spring constant.
