Based on the finite element model of the fatigue life of an automobile engine connecting rod, it's found that the fatigue fracture area of the parts is the dangerous area of manufacturing defects. After prefabricating defects in dangerous areas, the phased array ultrasonic flaw detector is used to detect the connecting rod, and the difference between the software positioning defect position and the actual artificial defect position is compared. After proper numerical compensation, the positioning error of straight probe within 30 mm thickness can be controlled within ± 0.20 mm. The experimental results show that the defect location can be quickly and accurately identified by using the beam focusing and deflection characteristics of phased array ultrasonic, which can improve the efficiency of nondestructive testing and ensure the internal quality of remanufactured parts. © 2020 IEEE.
